چکیده
Madagascar is home to many endemic plant and animal species owing its ancient isolation from other landmasses. This unique fauna includes several lineages of termites, a group insects known for their key role in organic matter decomposition terrestrial ecosystems. How when termites colonised remains unknown. In this study, we used 601 mitochondrial genomes, 93 which were generated Malagasy samples, infer the global historical biogeography Neoisoptera, lineage containing more than 80% described termite species. Our results indicate that Neoisoptera between 7 10 times independently during Miocene, 8.4 16.6 Ma (95% HPD: 6.1–19.9 Ma). timing matches colonization Australia by Neoisoptera. Furthermore, taxonomic composition Neoisopteran are strikingly similar, with harbouring an additional two absent Australia. Therefore, akin Australia, expansion grasslands, possibly helped ecological opportunities arising spread new biome.

Simulation of the Middle Miocene Climate Optimum
[1] Proxy data constraining land and ocean surface paleotemperatures indicate that the Middle Miocene Climate Optimum (MMCO), a global warming event at 15 Ma, had a global annual mean surface temperature of 18.4 C, about 3 C higher than present and equivalent to the warming predicted for the next century. We apply the latest National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Community Atmosphere M...
متن کاملUsing paleosols of the Picture Gorge Basalt to reconstruct the middle Miocene climatic optimum
The Picture Gorge Subgroup of the Columbia River Basalt preserves numerous, minimally altered, interfl ow paleosols that were formed during the middle Miocene climatic optimum. These paleosols are used to reconstruct a high-resolution paleoclimate record. Between 16.0–15.4 Ma ago, mean annual precipitation (MAP) was 500–900 mm/year and mean annual temperature (MAT) was 8–16°C, which is consiste...
متن کاملModeling the Miocene Climatic Optimum. Part I: Land and Atmosphere
This study presents results from the Community Climate System Model 3 (CCSM3) forced with early to middle Miocene (;20–14 Ma) vegetation, topography, bathymetry, and modern CO2. A decrease in the meridional temperature gradient of 6.58C and an increase in global mean temperature of 1.58C are modeled in comparison with a control simulation forced with modern boundary conditions. Seasonal polewar...

متن کاملMulti-proxy approach detects heterogeneous habitats for primates during the Miocene climatic optimum in Central Europe.
The present study attempts to characterize the environmental conditions that prevailed along the western shores of the Central Paratethys and its hinterland during the early middle Miocene at the same time t primates reached their peak in species diversity in Central Europe. Based on faunal structure (using cenograms), paleotemperature reconstruction (using cricetid diversity), and dietary reco...
